Protein

A protein is a macromolecule made up of folded polypeptides, which themselves break down into peptides, or polymers of amino acids. Following the genetic code, DNA codons are translated into amino acids for assembly into peptides.

Proteins act as the basic unit of cellular function and serve a wide range of activities, from regulation to transport to motion. Just a small sampling of the huge number of proteins appearing in humans are as follows:
