Do the generally accepted findings of deep psychology have anything to offer gay patients? Can the modern psychoanalytic theory be used to understand gay identity in a helpful, non-harming, respectful, and non-traumatic way? In gay psychodynamic therapy explores this issue and outlines a therapeutic approach to sexual identity that is based on traditional therapeutic goals (such as psychological integration and a more authentic life) while respecting or even valuing variation in sexual orientation.
