Genome 10K Project

Genome 10K is a huge project, headed by UC Santa Cruz, that plans to sequence the genomes of 10,000 vertebrate species in the hope of creating a huge genetic menagerie. Such an authoritative database could hopefully then be applied to construct a finalized, complete phylogeny for the entire vertebrate phylum based on genome data, which could then be used to compare species in novel ways.
