Gene regulation

Gene regulation is the change in production of a given gene or gene product (e.g., protein). Without gene regulation, genes would simply be turned "ON" or "OFF" with no middle ground; the middle ground is important to life functions, especially in organisms like bacteria that must constantly adapt to changing external conditions.
